Healing Through Poetry: A Literary Workshop and Discussion with a North Korean Counselor

March 31, 2023 | 6:00PM - 7:00PM | CPA 100

This event is in collaboration with Saejowi and Dear Asian Youth @ USC. We will feature a Q&A with a North Korean Peer Counselor, J. Kim, to talk about her experiences as a refugee and counselor for other North Korean refugees at Saejowi. The event will conclude with a creative writing workshop and poetry reading by Esther Ra, an author and former officer at Saejowi. This event is open to all USC students and general audiences. Food will be provided. 2 lucky attendees will receive a free copy of Esther's book, book of untranslatable things. Please come 10 minutes early if you would like food. RSVP here.

UCLA x USC Liberty in North Korea Advocacy Fellows Speaker Event 

October 26, 2022 | 7:00PM | ZHS 352 & Online

This event will feature a speaker portion and Q&A with our advocacy fellows, Hannah, Harry, Noah, and Nicky. Our fellows are North Korean refugees who are college students, wanting to share their stories and their hopes for the future. The speaker portion will be followed by a Q&A from the audience, so come curious! This event is open to all LiNK teams and general audiences. It will be held both on Zoom and in person at the University of Southern California campus (ZHS 352). 

TO THE LIGHTS Screening

Please join us for an exclusive screening of To The Lights, a short film made by Emily Kim (one of our brilliant alum)! To The Lights is a story of a young girl, faced with a chance to escape North Korea, who must confront her loving father devoted to his nation. After the screening, there will be a short Q&A with Emily where you can ask her about the film, its production, and more. Snacks will be provided. LiNK Up Socal 2022

This conference is organized in collaboration with Alliance for Korea United (AKU) and LiNK at UCLA. This event will have three parts featuring a North Korean refugee speaker, a Q&A panel, and a social portion. Our featured speaker is Seohyun Lee, a North Korean refugee currently pursuing graduate studies to achieve her dream of building a liberal democratic system and bringing freedom to North Korea. She runs a YouTube channel called "Pyonghattan." 

Activism and Human Rights Career Panel: Incorporating Activism in Professional Life After Undergrad

Join us for a discussion of how to pursue your passion for activism and community work in your career. Organized by Liberty in North Korea at USC, we will bring together a diverse range of professionals that loosely work around the theme of Asian/Asian-American activism and human rights. Panelists will include Jae Hwan Lim, a politically driven artist-activist, Armida Reyes, the District Liaison for LA Council District 4 and advocate for human rights globally, and Christina Yang, the Pro Bono Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice.

Rehumanizing the Scope of North Korea

This event is in collaboration with USC Delta Phi Epsilon to bring you a discussion about North Korea and media representation, advocacy, and more. Panelists will include Roberto Hong, an immigration lawyer and advocate for North Korean refugees, Dongjin Kim, a North Korean refugee speaker and LiNK Advocacy Fellow, and David Kang, the Director of USC Korean Studies Institute and Professor of International Relations, Business, and EALC at USC.

Gendered Experiences & Trafficking

Join us for a rare opportunity to hear from Joy, a LiNK Advocacy Fellow, and her story of escape from North Korea and human trafficking. We will discuss the gendered violence that many North Korean women face when they make their escape to China and the dangers that follow.
